Section 5-60 Procedure in applying for contractor s license.



Prior to the adoption of 5-60 on 07/12/2004, Section 5-60 read as follows.

    (a)    Any person or firm desiring to  be certified as a contractor in the city shall make application  for a contractor s license on a form prescribed by the building contractors examining board at the  office of the secretary of such board. The application shall be retained by the board together with  all supporting papers.

    (b)    As a prerequisite to having the application considered, the applicant shall give all information as required on the application form which shall include:

    (1)    A statement of the applicant s  proposed contracting business;

    (2)    Name, residence, business address of applicant;

    (3)    The name and business address of the firm and the name and residence of all directors and officers of the firm and their interest therein; and

    (4)    The name and residence of the applicant s representative.

    (c)    Furnish a list of all businesses  owned, operated or managed by the applicant or in which  applicant has had interest of any kind during the past five (5) years and the address of such  business.

    (d)    Should the applicant be a firm, the application shall be executed by the president of the  firm or a person legally qualified to fully act and bind such firm and demonstrate the legally qualified person s authority to do so on such application. The application shall also name an  authorized agent to act on behalf of the firm and show the agent s authority to:

    (1)    Fully act and bind the firm in  all matters in any manner connected with the contracting business;

    (2)    Supervise the construction under  the contractor s license issued to the firm; and

    (3)    Take the qualifying examination for and on behalf of such firm. The firm shall be qualified  only through the qualifications of such agent taking the examination.

    (e)    The board shall review and approve  applications prior to the applicant taking the written examination. If, in the judgment of the board, the applicant is not qualified to take the examination,  no examination shall be given.

    (f)    The board shall have authority  to require the applicant to furnish any data or material it  deems necessary to evaluate his qualifications to hold the contractor s license applied for.

    (g)    After approval of the application by the board, payment of a fee for the examination and  qualifying of the applicant must be paid to the treasurer of the city prior to taking the examination. The fee for the examination and qualifying the applicant is as follows:

    (1)    General contractor    $ 70.00

    (2)    Building contractor    70.00

    (3)    Residential contractor    70.00

    (4)    All other contractors    60.00

    (5)    Any exams administered by Block & Associates, Gainesville, Florida    135.00

Fees shall not be refunded for any reason.

    (h)    The secretary of such board shall notify the applicant of his approval or denial of a  contractor s license.
