Section 2-186 Definitions.
Prior to the adoption of 1999 (2-186) on 02/08/1999, Section 2-186 read as follows.
The following words, terms and phrases, when used in this article, shall have the meanings ascribed to them in this section, except where the context clearly indicates a different meaning:
Adopting employer: The term "adopting employer" as used in this chapter means the South Georgia Emergency Services Mutual Aid Pact (whether that name or some similar name is adopted as the identifying name of the organization) or any successor organization, specifically including, but not limited to, a state created authority as contemplated above.
Class A: The designation Class A shall be used to indicate those members for whom Social Security coverage is not carried by the city.
Class B: The designation Class B shall be used to indicate those members for whom Social Security coverage is carried by the city and hired prior to January 1, 1997.
Class C: The designation Class C shall be used to indicate those members for whom Social Security coverage is carried by the city and hired after December 31, 1996.
Employee means all persons performing regular service in the employ of the city, in each and all departments thereof, except the mayor and members of the city council, who are performing services in elective positions, as well as the following part-time employees, to wit: the city attorney, the city auditor, the city physician, the recorder, and all employees of the public school system. The term "employee" as used in this chapter shall be deemed to embrace and include all persons performing regular service in the employ of the city, and each and all departments thereof, except the mayor, and members of the board of commissioners, for performing services in elective positions, as well as the following part-time employees, to-wit: the city attorney, the city auditor, the city physician, the recorder, and all employees of the public school system. Further, the term "employee" as used in this chapter shall also include the following former employees of the city who are now performing regular service in the employ of the South Georgia Emergency Services mutual aid pact: Don E. Allen, Charles R. Anderson, Alvin Benton, Jr., Josef E. Cole, Jr., Gary M. Dollar, Charles W. Eddings, Jr., James H. Fletcher, Jr., Larry E. Griffin, Earl Harris, Bobby A. Hart, Albert Jarrell, Jr., Zeke Johnson, Elma J. Johnson, Howard Lewis, Thomas McLendon, Stephen D. NeSmith, Joe G. Parrish, Butler F. Perry, Howard L. Peters, James Roberts, Russell L. Sampson and Willie A. Sangster.
Employees of public schools: Employees of the public schools of the City of Thomasville are employees of a separate entity viz: board of education of the city and are not included.
Management means the city manager or the superintendent of the water and light department.
Member means all employees who have qualified under the terms of this chapter and are making contributions to the pension fund. Further, the term "member" shall be deemed to include the named employees of the adopting employer as defined in this section 2-186, who have qualified under the terms of this article V and are making contributions to the pension fund.
Part-time employee means one whose term of employment is intended to last for more than one (1) year, but who puts in less than one thousand (1,000) hours of service in any twelve (12) consecutive months.
Temporary employee means one whose term of employment is intended to last not more than one (1) year or who is engaged for a specific project involving a period of time for more than a year.
Years of service means any twelve (12) consecutive months of membership in the pension fund. Fractional years of service shall be computed to the nearest full month.
